About Apatite

The apatite gemstone is an abundant mineral, found in many types of rocks, but most gem-quality material is associated with pegmatites. Apatite is known as the 'cheat' stone as it resembles many other stones such as topaz and tourmaline.

The stone is bright with strong colours ranging from blue to yellow and green. Blue is the more common colour and is readily available, whilst yellow is rare. it is sourced in Mexico, Norway, Russia and United States. Apatite has a hardness value of 5 on the Mohs Scales.

Jewellery Making With Apatite

Care needs to be given when using apatite for jewellery making as it is a soft stone and can be easily damaged. Keep apatite away from heat, take care when cleaning as polishing the stone may cause it to scratch and always keep your apatite jewellery safe in a fabric-lined box.
