6 Designs for Mother's Day

Go handmade this Mother's Day to make your own beautiful jewellery designs! 

Whether it's for your mother, mother figure, mentor or someone you greatly admire, we've put together a list of five jewellery designs to help inspire you to create your very own special gift!

1. Wire-wrapped Pearl Ring

Using our 0.8mm and 0.3mm silver wire, we've created this simple but gorgeous pearl ring. 

With a mandrel at hand, we managed to get that perfect round shape as well as tailor the wire to the correct ring size and hammered the back for a little texture.

This is a great design that can be made into a piece of personalised jewellery by switching the pearl bead for the recipients birthstone!

2. Family Nest Necklace

We've created this beaded nest necklace from our 0.8mm and 0.3mm silver wire. 

We have personalised this necklace by using the birthstones of the mother and her children - aquamarine and pearl gemstone beads are the main features in this design.

3. Simple Heart Wire Earrings

We used our 0.8mm sterling silver wire to create these simple heart wire earrings. 

These are a perfect project if you're short on time but still want to make gift something handmade and meaningful.

At Kernowcraft, we have many different types of wire so why not give this design a go using copper, gold or brass?

4. Circular Birthstone Drop Necklace

If you're looking to make something more personalised than our circular birthstone drop necklace is a great quick design to choose. 

The beads used in this jewellery piece are the birthstones of the mother and her children and the circle is uniting them. 

We've used amethyst, peridot and carnelian gemstone beads and connected them using a small jump ring attached to a large jump ring.

5. Teardrop Bead Earrings

This is another lovely personalised piece of jewellery. Again, using birthstones, you can create these teardrop earrings tailored to your mother's birthstone.

We have an array of round gemstone beads but for this design we've used our 4mm and 6mm amethyst beads.

The teardrop shape we created by wrapping our 0.8mm wire around a wheatsheaf mandrel however, this is not an essential tool (if you don't have one you could use a large cotton reel or even a lip balm pot!).

6. Birthstone Necklace

Another wonderful idea is to feature birthstones on a chain using pendant settings. In this design, we set four birthstones in milled edge pendant settings and attached them to the sterling silver maxi belcher chain with 5mm jumprings, evenly spacing them out. For an extra special touch, we added a delicate heart charm in the centre.

You can personalise this necklace by adding different charms, or for a unique twist, skip the charm and use gemstones to spell out a name. For instance, to spell "Julie":

J - Jade, U - Unakite, L - Larimar, I - Iolite, E - Emerald
