6 Wire Wrapped Ring Projects & Essential Tools
It's amazing what you can create using some wire!
We're sharing with you some of our favourite ring projects using a combination of beads, cabochons, charms and sea glass. When you wire wrap, you don't necessarily need a stone with a hole in it, it's all about experimenting with designs and being creative with wire wrapping. The beauty of this technique is that there really is no wrong way to do it as long as the stone is secure.
What can I wire wrap?
You can wire wrap most things but we wouldn't recommend wire wrapping anything with sharp or pointy edges such as a faceted stone (which has a pointed bottom). The more irregular the shape, the harder it will be to wire wrap, but it's all about experimenting!
What size wire can I use?
You can use any size wire you like depending on your desired design but we recommend using 0.8mm sterling silver wire (used in the below designs) which is easy to manipulate and will hold its shape well. In our wire wrapped briolette ring design featured below, we've used 0.3mm sterling silver wire.
What tools do I need?
- Snipe nose pliers - for bending and manipulating wire
- Flat nose pliers - these have wide jaws which are great for bending angles in wire
- Round nose pliers - for bending loops in wire
- We would highly recommend buying our pack of pliers and side cutters which has all the pliers you need for jewellery making and wire wrapping - plus they all come in a handy zip-up case
- Side cutters - for cutting wire
- Triblet - for forming a ring shape and measuring the ring

Chinese Turquoise Wire Wrapped Ring
We love creating texture using chip or nugget beads! Using rough beads makes your designs one of a kind. As this is a smaller bead, we've wire wrapped under the stone to make the stone sit securely.

Espresso Drusy Cabochon Ring
You can use any size cabochon you like to wire wrap, just keep in mind that irregular shapes will be harder to wire wrap. This rectangular stone looks brilliant encased in wire and we just love the sparkles from this stone.
